About:

The Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company is one of the few go-to sources of Asian American culture and educational programs. Our mission is to integrate Chinese American heritage into the contemporary dance world, the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company strives to be a world-class dance company that celebrates the diversity of ideas that immigrants encounter in America.

What we can do for you: Our workshops can fit seamless into your school's schedule, either in-school or after school, depending on your needs. Long-Term Residencies: The Company assigns one Company teaching artist and one Company dancer to provide professional-development seminars; curriculum materials developed in collaboration with teachers are used to deliver approximately 50 workshops in dance movement, visual arts, and music that involve community artists, Company dancers, and prominent guest artists/designers. The program culminates in an all-school China Day Festival.

Short-term residencies: The Company offers workshops that can take place in one class period or span across multiple days. We also use components from our Long-Term Residency model in many of the Company’s short-term residencies.

Educational Workshops: Dancing on the Silk River, Ribbon Dance Workshop: A fun filled workshop for young and old. This activity teaches the audience how to make a rainbow, waterfall and ocean wave with ribbons. It focuses on the most important goal of Chinese art: oneness with nature.

The Ten Elements of Chinese Dance - Movement Workshop: This workshop is relevant to anyone who has an interest in Chinese culture, art and dance. It gives first hand experience into movement disciplines that originated thousands of years ago.

Forms in Motion: This more advanced workshop allows students to integrate language, brush writing art and dance into a unified whole concept.

The Art of Chinese Dance: A multi-cultural, interactive dance program with dazzling costumes and fantastic props, the dancers bring young people on a journey to explore one of the most ancient cultures in the world. The journey takes the audience from the ribbon dance originated in the Han dynasty to the beautiful and elegant Celestial Lake dance. The Art of Chinese Dance is not a main stage performance; it is specifically designed with K-12 schools, community centers, and libraries in mind.
